It’s been a while since I’ve posted here… to be honest, I don’t even remember when did we switch to WordPress :D
Oh, well. To the point.
This is the newest release of Bitsweeper!
Basically, not much has changed. Sorry about that. :)
- First of all, the source code has been moved to Google Code. This was made in order to make easier for people to check and/or download it. The project is now hosted at: http://code.google.com/p/bitsweeper/ ; you can browse the source code at: http://code.google.com/p/bitsweeper/source/browse/ .
- During its annual checkup ( :D ), I’ve found a few pieces of code that weren’t doing really anything useful in there, so they were removed.
- A bug was found, since I first uploaded the source code to Google, where I was calling irqInit() explicitly, causing it to not recognize touchscreen input. It’s been now fixed.
- The source has been updated to work with the latest releases of devkitARM (r36) and libnds (1.5.4).
- The artwork has been modified a little, to make text easier to read.
And that’s it.
Get it at http://code.google.com/p/bitsweeper/downloads/detail?name=Bitsweeper.zip . Get the sources at the address above.
And visit my page at: http://dsotaku.drunkencoders.com/ for more details on my other projects.
Still working on the homebrew database but for now here are the winners. I had to lump in the single Wii entry as there was no separate prize pool for Wii this year. Although only 5 entries this year they were all of high quality. Thanks for another great year and I hope to make things a bit more interesting this year.

A very entertaining maze game, I found it both challenging and interesting to play. I loved the sound keyed game events, the randomness of the maze, and the feel of the game. Great work and the only “complete” game entered.

First, i loved the coder art. The judging between the last 4 entries was tight and while perhaps a bit odd this game ended up on top as it was the only one to attempt multiplayer.
Could have used a few more days of coding and will be interesting to see it finished up

Pretty standard gameplay…surprised to see a lua entry but turned out rather well. A nice little puzzler.

It was a bit hard as the collision boxes were a bit unforgiving for the speed…fortunately it was short enough to make up for it

The only wii entry, a simple puzzler with a snow sucking snowman. Would have been drastically improved with the addition of some enemies to thwart what was otherwise a so-simple-it-got-dull-fast game. Great work and very smooth accelerometer controls.
Top three be certain to email me your paypal address to award the prizes!
The entries are in and here they are:
The Entries
Only 5 entries this year, a disappointing turn out but time has been a challenge and I did not do well advertising it this year.
Because of the low turnout and only one Wii entry the entries will be grouped this year and judged together.
Happy judging and intend on having the results by the beginning of next week.
If you don’t see your entry in the zip i did not get it. I am willing to blame that on my shoddy email until Saturday morning so message me if you feel you have been missed.
Only a couple of days left to enter and the submission site is still down. Feel free to email your entries in:

For those that have not noticed the Prize pool for the Winter Game Programming competition has reached $400!
I know…winter is already 8 days old and I have yet to announce the Sixth annual game programming competition!
I have been a bit out of communications of late due to my job seeming to prefer me several hundred feet beneath the sea but the compo is on. More details to follow in the next few days.
Comments from prospective participants would be welcome.
The deadline will be the last day of winter (which normally ends up around the 21st of March).
Added 30 or so new themes for drunken blogers to freshen up their site look. Feel free to email me a link to any official theme you would like on your blog (or any unofficial one for that matter)

Although not as many entries as in the past still some quality results. Thanks for another great year and I hope to make things a bit more interesting this year.

Very nice work, an RTS is not a small endeavor and your game is playable if somewhat lacking in polish. The graphics
were a bit sparse but they worked. An amazing amount of room for improvement with a good start…I can see this game
actually being playable soon.

Was pretty fun, if only it had a goal and one more board/enemy type. The graphics were great if a bit glitchy at
the polygon seams.

Very simple gameplay that turned out to be rather addictive…enough so that my 8 year old wanted it on his DS and my Mother-
in-law spent several minutes playing it. Good work.

Well..not much of a christmas trivia buff so didnt do all that hot. Seemed a bit buggy at times with the snow

Not very wintery and not very gamey but pretty useful in and of itself…could not actually get it to connect
but probably an error on my part and did not try to hard since without a wintery theme or gameplay its pretty
difficult for an entry to compete.

Pollished and interesting presentation, the gameplay was a bit challenging. It could have used an interactive
tutorial to demonstrait the purpose of each elemental power as i never quite go the hang of employing them.

Well, the wintery theme was a bit slapped on but the gameplay was pretty fun if a bit too hard to be engrosing.
The lack of sound and music really hurt you…and how hard would it have been to slap in a sleigh in instead of a
helicopter! :)
Okay, after a bit of painful wordpress api development filtering is now enabled. For sub blogers if you would like a certain article to show up on the main page tag it with any of the following:
‘drunk’, ‘drunk_news’, ‘Homebrew’, ‘dsdev’, ‘wiidev’
Please abuse this feature as the more news on the main site the better for everyone (including the scene in general). My goal is for the main page to be a bit more social and driven by the scene.
And no dave, i did not filter out things tagged ‘palib’ yet (still considering it)
